Memorian- A Latin word that means “into memory.”
Memorial Day- Originally called Decoration Day, is an American holiday celebrated on the last Monday of May. It is a day to honor
and remember those who died in service of the United States. Today is Memorial Day.
So, while you are celebrating with cookouts and picnics, take time to remember the fallen heroes from the American Revolution to the conflicts in the Middle East, and commit their sacrifice into memory. And if you happen to see a soldier, sailor, or marine, remember to thank them for their service.
To all who have served or will serve- May your sacrifice never be forgotten.
I’d post a photo of the gate to Lejeune or the parade ground at Ft Hood where there is boot for every fallen Marine or soldier lost in Iraq and Afghanistan but wordpress only allows words. Here in my home today is a day of remembering and my flag is flying for those who gave their life for my freedom.
Beautiful, poignant… A lovely tribute, Lilly. Thanks!
Skye, I flew my little plastic flags at the camper park this weekend and we drove through camp LeJune on the way home from the beach around three thirty this afternoon. Many flags in Jacksonville were flying at half-mast in honor of the fallen. Very touching. Thanks so much for stopping by Skye and Diane. And I hope you both had a wonderful weekend.
